“I got involved with KAYA because I wanted to help out and be more involved with the Filipino American Community… I wanted to make a difference and try something new that I have never done before.”

Home town

I’m from Ternate Cavite in the Philippines. Lived in Washington D.C from 1994 until 1995. Been living in San Francisco since 1995 until now…

Why I got involved with KAYA

I got involved with KAYA because I wanted to help out and be more involved about what is going on with the Filipino American Community. I wanted to gain knowledge about politics and different issues and be informed about it. I wanted to make a difference and try something new that I have never done before. Also, meet new people and learn from them.

My most recent volunteer opportunity with KAYA

When I volunteered for Pistahan in August. I walked in the parade. I did tabling for them and I was passing out information about KAYA and talking to people about KAYA.

What I think is the most critical issue affecting the Filipino American community

I think the most critical issue affecting the Filipino American Community is the economy and education.

Memorable KAYA moment

My memorable Filipinos for Obama moment was when I went to the inauguration and that was such a great experience. I still can’t believe that I was there and that was just amazing. My memorable KAYA moment was last year of the KAYA launched and saw Congressman Honda, Mayor Newsom, and just so many people who I thought that I would never meet. Also, walking in the parade for Pistahan and tabling because that’s how we get to meet people and tell people about KAYA. Plus, I get to see people who I haven’t seen for a while…
