Title:               Program Manager (CAPAL Public Service Fellow)

Reports to:     Chair, CAPAL and Executive Board

 

Mentored By: Senior Advisors, Advisory Council and the Chair Emeritus

Require Dates/Months of Availability: Expected to begin early January

Time Commitment:   Full Time, min. 1 year with option to extend

Compensation: $2,000/month and/or academic credit

Team members: 20 on Board of Directors, including 4 on Exec. Board

 

Job Summary and Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Program Manager providing the highest quality business operations and support services that are essential to the success of the Executive Board of CAPAL (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary)
  • Work closely with the Scholarship and Internship Co-Chairs to provide research, marketing, outreach, and postings to ensure a diverse qualified applicant pool of candidates
  • Support Fundraising committee through grant-writing, researching new funding sources, and developing sponsorship initiatives
  • Further develop the infrastructure for growing and sustaining a Public Service Internship Program through documentation of operational procedures
  • Assist in planning the Annual Board Retreat, the Washington Leadership Program, Professional Development Program Events, and prepare an updated Board Manual
  • Support all program chairs with coordination of administrative duties including, but not limited to maintaining and updating databases of people and places
  • Develop external partnerships and relationships to coordinate the annual job fair
  • Attend all monthly CAPAL Board meetings and commit to keeping in constant communications with volunteer board virtually

Deliverables

The Program Manager is expected to manage the operational needs of an all-volunteer Board of Directors in shared office facilities.

Educational and Job Experience Requirements

Commensurate academic and professional experience with a commitment to serve the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Critical thinking skills to plan, develop, and coordinate logistics with general supervision. Advanced web research with familiarity of Salesforce preferred.  Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis. Experience working independently as well as on a team. Experience providing support to a Board/Committee and represent CAPAL in a professional manner. Proficiency in MS Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Judgment and Decision making

Must be able to be both a leader and a program manager.  Must be capable of building consensus and negotiating decisions to move the organization forward. Ability to manage competing priorities and changing deadlines.

Opportunity for Growth

It is expected that the Program Manager will be well versed in current issues regarding nonprofit management and will seek out resources to guide him/her.  Fellow will be encouraged to take on innovative initiatives and grow programs. Skills, knowledge and abilities to grow into an Executive Director for non-profits.

Management of Funds

Along with the Treasurer and other members of the Exec. Committee the Fellow is directly responsible for working within budget.
