Apply to be an OFA State Youth Vote Director!

Overview

Organizing for America is now taking applications for State Youth Vote Directors to work in various states as part of Operation Vote. State Youth Vote Director (YD’s) will operate as managers for the Organizing for America youth vote programs in their state. Interested candidates should CLICK HERE to view this position online and for instructions on how to apply.

Responsibilities

YD’s, working within Organizing for America and with support and guidance from Obama for America, will develop, implement, and execute a metrics-driven field and political program to educate, register, and turnout 18-29 year olds throughout their state. YD’s will be responsible for managing relationships with allied, state youth organizations and will act as a direct resource for campus-based Field Organizers. They will be responsible for collecting qualitative and quantitative data from campuses and youth communities and will report those data on a nightly basis.

State Youth Vote Directors will also:

- Collect and aggregate comprehensive metrics from every target campus in their state and report those data on a nightly basis

- Be a reliable resource for campus-based organizers and their teams

- Be in the field and on campuses organizing and supporting teams

- Manage the planning, build, execution, and follow-up of a large scale student summit

- Participate in Youth Vote Director calls

- Write campus-specific registration and GOTV plans

- Implement a voter education program to inform students of what they need to bring to the polls on Election Day, what they need to register and more

-  Develop and execute a plan to confirm students as on-campus volunteers to clean up existing lists (It wasn’t a complete sentence before. Does it now reflect what you intended?)

-  Oversee campus-specific voter registration and GOTV plans, to be completed in May 2012

- Identify major, youth events and develop an Organizing for America presence at those events

- Identify target high schools and engage students for volunteer recruitment and voter registration campaigns

- Develop and implement an early vote program, where appropriate

- Act as an advocate on behalf of your campuses to state and national staff

-  Act as a liaison between campus-based organizers and Organizing for America staff

- Hold daily conference calls with campus-based organizers

- Be the Organizing for America point person for large, youth-oriented events

- Work with Organizing for America’s press shop and engage in a regular dialogue with campus newspapers and youth-focused media outlets off-campus

- Highlight, and when necessary, develop press-worthy events for young voters

- Engage local, young entertainment acts, athletes, and elected officials for events

- Work with local allies around events, voter contact, and message amplification

- Work with border state pro-Obama student groups to coordinate volunteer trips, specifically during the voter registration period

- NOTE: Depending on the state, this position may or may not include the direct management of campus-based Field Organizers.

This is not an entry-level position. Preferred candidates will have strong writing and personal skills, significant youth outreach experience, and a substantial field organizing background.
